tore to the bathroom door. Had he been limping? She couldn't

even ask without bringing suspicious questions about magic

balm.

Stephen came out of the bathroom dressed in jeans. His

feet and upper body were bare. Dani grabbed up her

backpack and headed through the door.

"You have ten minutes," he called after her. "I'm going to

run over to the restaurant and see if they have some muffins

or something to eat we can take with us."

She answered, "Okay," from behind the closed door. Once

again with more light, she examined her hand thinking there

had to be a logical explanation. There was no time to come up

with one now. Hopping into the shower, she spent five

minutes there then got out, dried off, put her t-shirt and

jeans on, brushed her teeth, and ran a comb through her wet

hair.

Seconds later, she heard Stephen come back in the room

saying it was time to go, their ride was waiting. It was barely

daybreak, but he didn't need to remind her of the urgency.

She couldn't imagine how Deluca, or Mays for that matter,

could continue to find them, but they had before so...
